The Mount Aloysius College Office of Mission, Ministry, and Service invites students to join us for our spring break trip to eastern Kentucky with the Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) for Workfest 2027.
Workfest is CAP’s week-long alternative spring break program, where college students from across the country help repair substandard homes for families in Appalachia. Students work in crews alongside CAP staff on projects such as painting, flooring, hanging drywall, roofing, siding, and building ramps and porches. There will be crew leaders on site to guide the construction process, so no prior experience is necessary; only a willingness to work hard and serve others.
The week isn’t all work though. Days are spent on the job site, while evenings offer time for fun, fellowship, and learning about Appalachian culture. Events include a bluegrass band, dinner with those we are there to serve, and an evening off to explore the region. Students will stay at a CAP summer camp facility or community center, sharing the space with groups from other colleges.
Past participants often describe the experience as deeply meaningful. As Julia Davis, a Mountie who participated in two Workfest trips shared, “It was awesome to see the Mercy values put into action through service…and to see the empathy that everyone has in that scenario.”
Want to learn more? Join us for an informational meeting on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. in the Mercy Hospitality Center.
The cost of the trip is $150, which includes registration, food, and lodging. Financial aid is still available, so don’t let cost keep you from taking part.
Come ready to serve, grow in faith, and build lasting friendships. We hope to see you there!
